An Article About Blogging

Misconceptions of Some Pinoys on the World of Blogging

Posted by Karlo.PinoyBlogero on June 2nd, 2007

Every time I am asked by other Filipinos on what I do on my wee hours after school and I answer them that I “Blogâ€, I sometimes get a reaction that is bordered on utter disbelief or with a slight hint of disapproval. These are the people who are oblivious to the current online trend or to people who seem to dislike the whole blogging concept.

I made a little research and found out that the reason for this is that there are a lot of misconceptions that Filipinos have on the blogosphere. This thinking hinders them to see the usefulness and power of blogging.

I have listed some of the misconceptions that I have gathered through a mini-survey among my non-blogging friends and colleagues. Hopefully, this article would help clear out the wrong beliefs and it may even convince others to hop in on the wagon.

Blogs are only online diaries
This is a common misconception among those non-bloggers. Although blogging did began from online diaries in the early 90s, over the past few years it slowly evolved into something of its own kind. Today, there are actually a lot of blogs that are focused on many different topics such as news, technology, consumer products, and almost any subject a blogger can tackle.

Blogs are unprofessional
Some say that blogging is not suited for having a professional web presence especially for companies. However, there are already some companies that are trying out blogging for their business. This new marketing strategy is one out of the many new ways for companies to get in touch with prospective customers. There are also some certain individuals who make use of blogs as a way to promote their profession and themselves like webmasters, graphic artists, online marketers, and the like.

Blogs are just a waste of time
Many say that blogging is just a waste of time. You pour every ounce of your strength into building your blog and the results aren’t as big as you’d expect it to be. Although this may be true in some cases, blogs doesn’t necessarily go to waste as long as you know what you are doing (i.e. proper blogging techniques, blog marketing/promotion, community building, etc.) Blogs also offers different benefits like communities, improvement of writing skills, and even earning money.

Blogs requires good writing skills
This is one the main reasons why many people are afraid to engage into blogging. Having good writing skills is indeed essential yet it is not really a requirement to starting a blog. One doesn’t need to be articulate in writing as long as you can express feelings and ideas through written form effectively. There will come a time that your writing skills will improve as your blog progresses.

***When, our teacher said that blogging is a part of his requirements, i was stunned because i don't have any idea what is blogging all about. I just heard it and believed that it was only like making a diary .. I thought it was boring and just a waste of time and money(coz i dont have internet yet). Since it was a requirement, no choice but to enter the world of blogging. (hehehe).. BUt, as days passes by, i realize that blogging is fun.. I can post everything and anything i want to share to the people around the world. Although my words and grammar are not that correct but i think its understandable..(i dont care about those judgmental people..hahaha) That's why i am always upgrading my blog so that it could be an interesting blog ..heheh(you can read in my chatbox"this blog is undermaintenance, sorry for the inconvenience.."(-_-)).. Now, i realize that i must be thankful to Sir Randy S. Gamboa for letting us enter the world of blogging...

Keep smiling...

___A Smile__

Author Unknown

A smile costs nothing, but gives much-
It takes but a moment, but the memory of it usually lasts forever.
None are so rich that can get along without it-
And none are so poor but that can be made rich by it.

It enriches those who receive, without making poor those who give-
It creates sunshine in the home,
Fosters good will in business,
And is the best antidote for trouble-
And yet it cannot be begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is of no value
Unless it is given away.

Some people are too busy to give you a smile-
Give them one of yours-
For the good Lord knows that no one needs a smile so badly
As he or she who has no more smiles left to give.

not an ordinary poem...

__The Road Not Taken__
By:Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveller, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth.

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same.

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--

I took the one less travelled by,

And that has made all the difference.

HRM&PM:is there any difference???

…Humans are an organization's greatest assets; without them, everyday business functions such as managing cash flow, making business transactions, communicating through all forms of media, and dealing with customers could not be completed. Humans and the potential they possess drive an organization. Today's organizations are continuously changing. Organizational change impacts not only the business but also its employees. In order to maximize organizational effectiveness, human potential—individuals' capabilities, time, and talents—must be managed. Human resource management and personnel management works to ensure that employees are able to meet the organization's goals. The followings define what is Human Resource Management and Personnel Management.

...The Human Resources Management (HRM) function includes a variety of activities, and key among them is deciding what staffing needs you have and whether to use independent contractors or hire employees to fill these needs, recruiting and training the best employees, ensuring they are high performers, dealing with performance issues, and ensuring your personnel and management practices conform to various regulations. Activities also include managing your approach to employee benefits and compensation, employee records and personnel policies.

Assembled by Carter McNamara, MBA, PhD
http://www.managementhelp.org/hr_mgmnt/hr_mgmnt.htm#anchor722373

*** It was clearly stated that HRM focuses on the employees and their needs in a business organization..

...Personnel Management is an administrative discipline of hiring and developing employees so that they become more valuable to the organization.

http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/personnel-management.html

***This definition states that personnel management focuses in the development of an employee..

...Human resources are the people that staff and operate an organization. Human resource management can therefore be defined as the management of an organization’s human capital.

http://www.familiesandcommunities.sa.gov.au/Default.aspx?tabid=2358

***This defines that Human are the most important asset in a company..

...In any organization, there has to be someone concerned with the welfare and performance of persons who are a part of the operation. When an individual or a team of individuals takes on this task of seeing to programs and setting policies that impact everyone associated with the company, they are engaged in the process of personnel management.

http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-personnel-management.htm
Written by Malcolm Tatum

***This states that Personnel management focuses on the welfare ,development and performance of an employee..

...Human resource management is responsible for how people are treated in organizations. It is responsible for bringing people into the organization, helping them perform their work, compensating them for their labors, and solving problems that arise" (Cherrington, 1995, p. 5). There are seven management functions of a human resources (HR) department that will be specifically addressed: staffing, performance appraisals, compensation and benefits, training and development, employee and labor relations, safety and health, and human resource research.
http://www.answers.com/human%20resource%20management

***It is clearly states the function of Human resource Management in a company. It doesnt focuses not only on employees, as well as their needs that must be catered..

=>
Based on the above definitions, I can conclude that Personnel management is more administrative in nature, dealing with payroll, complying with employment law, and handling related tasks. Human resources, on the other hand, is responsible for managing a workforce as one of the primary resources that contributes to the success of an organization.Where personnel management once focussed on the basics; contemporary human resource management is defined by a more holistic approach to employee relations...

interview..

Last wednesday afternoon, we went to the City Gov't to interview a HRM personnel. Luckily, we we're entertained and allowed to conduct an interview. We interviewed MAam Florita L. Oligario, the HRMO Officer III. We asked her about what is her concept on the nature, scope and role of human resource management.

First, she discussed about the history of their HRM. She said that their HRM is not that developed compare to the present. Before , they only have small group of employee, they are lack of facilities and their HRM or should i say, personnel management was limited to some transaction only like hiring and preparation ofdocuments and appointments.BUt as days passes by, the department expanded their functions and management. Now, they cater everything which involves about employment and the employees.

Their system and processes are improved. The facilities are satisfying such as computers and has internet and air conditioned workplace. Now, They have personnel planning department, personnel selection, personnel benefits and welfare, and Human Resource Development Division. This is done for the reason of making a good department and to have the better employees in their company. Which means, they focus in catering the needs of their employees which provides career function to employees and competency enhancement. The government employees enjoy their annual benefits and good salary. The employees also enjoy some incentives. Like, a travel package in Davao worth P300 and a salu-salosalo-salo package 100pesos for exemplary achievement of their employee. Their performance rating is done every six months. And if an employee's rating is very high in two succeeding semester will receive P2000. And i think these incentives motivates the employees to work hard to have a good performance.

Secondly, we asked her about the scope of the HRM and she cited cites some, such as recruitment, training, and payroll. In the recruitment of their employees, they have some qualification to meet. First, take the qualifying exam and followed by interview with the personnel selection board. After that the credentials is evaluated, then they prepared a comparative report. The last is the approval of the City Mayor. They also conduct trainings for the the development of their employees.

When we asked Ma'am FLorita about the role of human resource management, she only answered us to “meet the need of the clients”. Then we asked her if she meets her expectation of their company, she answered “More than enough of my expectation. Job is fulfilling though it is stressful and the best thing is I am developed”. SHe concluded that HRM is very important in a company and It is the most essential asset in a company. That's why she proudly said "We are excellent".

***As a student who studies Human Resource Management, i agree with what Maam Oligario mentioned. I believe that human/employees are the most essential asset in a company. That's why their needs must be catered and they must be appreciated by giving incentives because HRM is a human Capital. And i think, the best thing she said about recruitment is that "not whom you know but how you poses the job"...

amazing...

Last August 30, 2008, we attended the BPO-HR and Recruitment Forum at the Sangguniang Panglungsod. I thought that it would we a mega boring day coz for me forums and seminars are kinda boring.. (hehehe). But i was definitely wrong coz that day was a very remarkably inspiring day ♥♥♥ Wanna know y?? It is because the guest speaker was really amazing. He's a homebased or should i say online medical transcriptionist that means his using the c0mputer without his eyes because he's a visually impaired individual and that makes him amazing!!! While listening to his speech, i realized how lucky i am coz my senses are complete. and i must be thankful for that. Anyway, his name is Ralph Queri Queri.. actually, when we went to the ladies room, Maam Wit shared us something about Ralph. She told us that Ralph is really hardworking person. Before he lost his vision, he graduated Accountancy at ADDU. When he was in college, that was the time he encountered some problems with his sight. His vision became blurd and after some time, he's totally blind.. At first, it was really hard for him to accept what happened to his eyes. But As days passed by, he realized that his life is worth living for.. that life must go on.. that's why he studied in a school for differently abled people.. And Gladly, he graduated as a medical transcriptionist... and now, his very successful in his profession...

♥♥♥The story of Ralph is indeed very inspiring. It only reminds us that Everyone of us are equal..And nothing is impossible if you believe in yourself that you can make it. WE should be thankful that we are here in this world. And everyone of us has its own worth. WE must believe that our lives are worth living for..

aja...

sa wakas... our gantt chart was already approved by sir RSG. Its time for our major paper na jud!!! (kulba.. hehehe).. Actually, this task was given to us ahead of time. Unfortunately, we dont know how to start.. because its our first time to make a major paper, a HRIS proposal to the City Government lang naman.. (huhuhu, pwede mutambling!! hehe).. grabeh, bz na keu amu career... hehehe.. Everyday naa mi himuon, even saturdays and sundays... coz we must focus on our major paper.. Hope that we will make it... we must... So, AJA!!!!
GOod Luck Guyz....

SONA 2008

President Arroyo delivered her State of the Nation Address on July 28, 2008 – her eight SONA in eight years as president of the Republic of the Philippines. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch and witness the most awaited speech of our president but I was able to read an article from the internet. And identified three areas related to Human Resource Mangement that can improve our quality of life.

"Our P 350 million training partnership with the private sector should qualify 60,000 for call centers, medical transcription, animation and software development, which have a projected demand of one million workers generating $13 billion by 2010"

__This is a big help to the economy because it can help decrease the unemployment rate in the country which is one of the reasons why our country encounters poverty.

"GSIS pensions have been indexed to inflation and have increased every year since 2001. Its salary loan availments have increased from two months equivalent to 10 months, the highest of any system public or private—while repayments have been stretched out.Pag-Ibig housing loans increased from P3.82 billion in 2001 to P22.6 billion in 2007. This year it experienced an 84% increase in the first four months alone. Super heating na. Dapat dagdagan ng GSIS at buksan muli ng SSS ang pautang sa pabahay. I ask Congress to pass a bill allowing SSS to do housing loans beyond the present 10% limitation"

__I think many employees were glad when they heard this statement of GMA. As it is said, humans are the most essential part of a company, with this speech of the president, it will help in motivating the employees to strive and work hard for the improvement of the company which will help them improve their quality of living.

"In training, 7.74 million took technical and vocational courses over the last seven years, double the number in the previous 14 years. In 2007 alone, 1.7 million graduated. Among them are Jessica Barlomento now in Hanjin as supply officer, Shenve Catana, Marie Grace Comendador, and Marlyn Tusi, lady welders, congratulations."

___Glad to hear that over a million graduated technical and vocational courses.
With this course, many will be given jobs and become productive individuals which may help them improve their quality of lives.

***I hope that the SONA of the president enlightened the mind of every Filipino. Let us be aware enough of what is happening in our beloved country. Let us put in our minds that the future and the progress of our country lies not only in the hands of our president but also in our hands...

☻just humans....

"Human beings are the most important, potent and critical, resource of any organization, and yet the least understood and the worst managed of its resources"

I strongly agree that Human beings are the most important, potent and critical, resource of any organization. Whyyy ?? because As human beings we know that we are God's greatest and best creation. We are the highest form of mammals because we can speak, write, think and we possess a lot of characteristics compare with the other creatures in this world. In other words, man are mentally gifted. And with these wonderful gifts of God, it is said that we, humans are the most valuable asset in a business oraganizations. We are the key for the success of a company and yet has the power destroy it. Without human, definitely theres no existence of any business organizations .Or should i say, no company will exist. Therefore, the success of a certain business organizations will depend on the workers and the people around it. However, it is said that human beings are least understood and the worst managed in a company . It is because some business organizations abuse the capability of humans to run their company. Sometimes, they treat humans as machines without thinking that humans do get tired. In contrast, sad to say, human sometimes are taken for granted because they are being replaced with the modern technology. Therefore, human beings are sometimes neglected and left out. (how sad...) To sum it up, humans play a very important role in a business organization. Therefore, every company must take good care of them and respect their rights not only because they are intellectually gifted but because they too have their hearts.

☻HRM in the BSCS/BSIT curriculum...

I think Human Resource Management is included in the BSCS/BSIT curriculum because it will help in giving us knowledge about our responsibilities, duties and rights as workers in a particular business organization where we will going to work if we graduated. With this subject, we would able to understand and know how Human Resource Management flows in a business organization And in the future, we have the knowledge and confidence to face the real word of business....

☻21st century corporations...

Today's fast-changing business environment poses major challenges for corporations. The modern technology is one of the major forces that is responsible for the radical changes that are going on among the business firms today. As what i read and heard , corporations, nowadays are becoming more competetive and more innovative and adopt the news trends in technology in this modern age.

The 21st century corporation also requires an array of new skills, all of which must be mastered for leaders to gain the upper competitive hand. Globalization has opened new markets. Deregulation has broken down industry boundaries. Venture capital has funded thousands of new tech-savvy insurgents who now threaten incumbents. And the ever-ubiquitous Web has brought the potential for remarkable gains in productivity--but also for frightening deflationary pressures. All these forces are fast propelling the creation of new business models in the 21st century, models that will look nothing like the once-healthy and seemingly invincible enterprises of an earlier age.

Still, corporations have a way of flourishing under changing circumstances.Tthe corporate form itself has a good deal of flexibility. Many corporations have already begun to adjust to the new realities of the Creative Economy--by allowing power to tilt from the sources of capital toward the sources of ideas, by embedding themselves in fertile corporate ecosystems, and by adopting codes of social responsibility to win the trust of a wary public. Legally, a corporation is a person--a person who is potentially immortal. Let's see how these ageless characters handle the next 100 years.

☻downsizing...

Downsizing is a commonly used euphemism which refers to reducing the overall size and operating costs of a company, most directly through a reduction in the total number of employees. When the market is tight, downsizing is extremely common, as companies fight to survive in a hostile climate while competing with other companies in the same sector. And one of those companies that undergone downsizing is the Siemens Mobile Company. Last July 30, 2003, the Siemens decided to downsize. Their main reason is that they intend to take steps to increase their productivity because the company’s sustained weakness of the market. That means cost cuts, and involves getting rid of 2,300 employees - 500 of them in Germany - by the end of the firm's financial next year in September 2004. No details were available of where else jobs would be going. The layoffs are part of a $1.1bn cost cutting package. Some 2,000 jobs have already gone in each of the past two years, leaving a
current workforce of about 28,000.
Siemens said it was making the job cuts as part of responsible long term planning. "The world market for mobile communication networks had already declined by 15% last year. This year, the market will contract by up to 20%," Siemens said . Futhermore, while sales of mobile phones continue to grow, they are doing so more slowly, Siemens said. Mobile phone makers worldwide have had trouble with a market that is moving from fresh users to upgrades of existing subscribers' phones, and have also suffered as operators concentrate more on sweating more money out of existing customers than on signing up new ones. The combination means an overall market shrinkage which could reach 20% this year. Siemens' mobile phone business ranks in the world's top four, but it has been struggling with price cuts and competition from Asian manufacturers. Its chief executive, Heinrich von Pierer, has also acknowledged that it has lacked attractive new handsets in comparison to rivals such as Motorola, Samsung and Nokia. As well as handsets, it makes network infrastructure for mobile telecoms providers. In that sector, like its competitors, it faces a shrinking market.
